- Paper Presentations by Staff Members :
- Mr. Suman Ganger won the II Prize for his paper presentation on “Short Communication” at a U.G.C. sponsored conference on “Recent Advances in Biological Sciences” at K.C. College in September 2008.
- Ms. Aarohi Parimu Khar attended a National conference on “Hypnotherapy”, the therapy of the new millennium that was organized by Indian Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Indian Society of Clinical Experimental Hypnosis and M.S. University of Baorda. The conference was held at Vadodara between 9th and 11th January 2009. At the conference, she also presented a paper titled “Use of Empty chair technique with Hypnosis on survivor of child Sexual Abuse”.
- Mrs. Hema Varadarajan presented a poster at an “International
Symposium on Microbial Biotechnology : Diversity, Genomics and Metagenomics” that was organized at the University of Delhi from 18th to 20th November by the Association of Microbiologists of India.
- Dr. (Mrs.) Anita Kanwar presented two papers (in absentia) at the International Liquid Crystal Conference held at Korea on 29th June and 4th July titled (i) Thermal nysteresis in the PDCLC Samples. (ii) Studies of Nano Particle Doped liquid crystal mixtures.
- Dr. (Mrs.) Anita Kanwar attended and presented one paper titled “ Cholestric liquid crystal as dopant in polymer dispersed liquid crystals” in D.A.E. Symposia held at B.A.R.C. from 16th to 20th December 2008.
- One paper titled “Study of PDLC and PDCLC mixtures using various techniques by Dr. (Mrs.) Anita Kanwar was published in Journal of Optics in the Sep. – July 2008 issue.
- Mrs. Madhavi Vaidya from Computer Science department has presented the paper in the National Conference of Data mining. This conference was held in March 2008. Her paper was selected among other 40 papers which were from University of Calcutta, IIT Delhi etc. The paper’s title was ‘Amalgamation of Distributed databases with Data Mining techniques’ and it was the part of her M.Phil. Computer Science dissertation.
- Dr. (Mrs.) Deepa Venkitesh presented one paper and her thesis at the National Laser Symposium NLS – 08 from 7th – 10th January 2009. She also presented three papers at the International Conference on photonics from 12th to 19th December 2009.
- This year Dr. (Mrs.) S. Nagpurkar, Mrs. Hemamalini Varadarajan, Dr. (Mrs.) Shikha Dutta, Dr. (Mrs.) Anita Kanwar, Mrs. Santhini Nair, Mrs. Ritika Makhijani have been given UGC grants for Minor Research Projects.
- Dr. V.D. Barhate has published a paper entitled “Extrative and Spectrophotometric Determination of Platinum (IV) using isonitroso – p – methyl A Cetophenone (HIMAP)” in the Journal of the Indian Council of Chemistry Vol – 2, pages 1 – 3 (2008). He also presented a paper along with Mr. Anand Gupta (an M.Sc. Student) at the 27th Annual Conference organized by the Indian Council of Chemistry from 26th to 28th December 2008 at Haridwar.
- Dr. (Mrs.) Shikha Dutta presented a paper on “The Interface between Multiculturalism and Creative Sensibilities of the South Asian Canadian Writers in the Global Society” at an international conference sponsored by the Canadian High Commission and U.G.C. at S.N.D.T. University.
- Mr. Suman Gangar was awarded the Second Prize for “Short Communication” at a U.G.C. sponsored National Conference on “Recent advances in Biological Sciences” at K.C. College on 16th September 2008.
- Staff Development / Faculty Improvement Programme :
- Prin. Dr. (Mrs.) J.K. Phadnis attended a six days “Executive Development Programme” from 12th – 17th May 2008 at Pune that was organized by the Association of Indian College Principals. She also presented a paper on “Best Practices” during this Programme.
- Prin. Dr. (Mrs.) J.K. Phadnis made a presentation to staff on
Institution building covering various aspects of development, and improving brand Image of the College.
- Mrs. Deepa Venkitesh successfully completed her Ph.D. Degree and was awarded Doctor of Philosophy from I.I.T. Powai.
- Mrs. Sunita Sherifani completed her M.B.A. in Finance from Yashwatrao Chauhan Open University in January 2009.
- Prof. L.C. Khithani successfully completed the Summer School
in Basic Sciences from 4th to 25th August 2008 conducted by U.G.C. Academic Staff College.
- Prof. Vikas Ware successfully completed the Summer School in Basic Sciences from 4th to 25th August 2008 conducted by U.G.C. Academic Staff College.

- Dr. (Mrs.) Anita Kanwar successfully completed a Refresher Course conducted by U.G.C. Academic Staff College from 3rd October 2008 to 23rd October 2008.
- Dr. (Mrs.) Deepa Venkitesh successfully completed a Refresher Course conducted by U.G.C. Academic Staff College from 3rd October 2008 to 23rd October 2008.
- Dr. (Mrs.) Pooja Jagasia successfully completed a Refresher Course conducted by U.G.C. Academic Staff College from 6th October 2008 to 25th October 2008.
- Prof. (Mrs.) Madhavi Vaidya acquired her M.Phil. degree
- Prof. Milind Gawai cleared his S.E.T. on 3rd June 2008.
- Prof. (Ms.) Minal Doshi completed P.G.D.F.M. on 28th August 2008.

- Co-curricular activities :
- Ms. Priyanka Angolkar and Ms. Kshama Kamath from F.Y.B.Sc. (Micro) were selected for winter training on biological short term projects to be conducted by Homi – Bhaba Centre of Science and Education (HBCSE), Mumbai during December 2008.
- The department of Banking and Insurance organized an Industrial visit to Pune for the F.Y. (B & I) students. They visited the National Institute of Banking and Management (NIBM) , National Insurance Academy (NIA) and Ramkrishna Food Pvt. Ltd. Laloja.
- The T.Y.B.M.S. students were accompanied by Mr. V.S. Gopal for an industrial visit to Amul Co – operative in Vadodara on 31st July 2008.
- The T.Y.B.Sc. (Microbiology & Biotechnology) students were accompanied by their faculty for an Industrial visit to the Hindustan Coca Cola Bottling Plant Ltd. at Wada on 30th August 2008.
- The department of Chemistry conducted a special coaching programme from July to September 2008 for an “Aptitude Test in Chemistry” conducted by the Indian Chemical Society. Six students got a good rank here.
- The students and some teachers from the department of Biotechnology and Microbiology went on an Industrial visit to Pune where they visited the Serum Institute of India AFMS, ABC farms, High – tech Lab. and an Agricultural College.
- The department of B.M.M. organized an Industrial visit for the S.Y.B.M.M. students to Nagpur, Jabalpur and Punche from 3rd to 7th January 2009.
- Extra – curricular achievements :
- National Level
At a national level seminar on “Contemporary Affairs, Issues, concerns and Management organized by ICLES M.J. College of Arts, Science and Commerce, our college won the trophy for the “Best College”. Our students participated in maximum number of categories and won the I Prize for the “Young Quiz – Mastermind”, “Young Historian ” and Young Environmentalist”. We also won the III Prize for “Young Social scientist”.
- State Level
Mr. Sushil Shrike was crowned “Collegiate Maharashtra Shree” at a contest organized by the Maharashtra State Body Building Federation.
- University Level
In the Zonal round of the University of Mumbai’s Youth Festival, Divya Rao of T.Y.I.T. won the I Prize in the Elocution Competition.
Some of our students also qualified in the Zonal round competitions of the Youth Festival of the University of Mumbai for classical dance, elocution monacting, painting and poster making held from 20th to 23rd August. Mr. Sushil Shrike won the Broze Medal in the “Best Physique” contest organized by University of Mumbai. Also Ms. Seema Shetty from T.Y.B.Sc. won the Silver Medal in Javelin Throw. Ms. Kanchan Jadhav from F.Y.B.Sc. won the Bronze Medal in Shotput and Mr. Sunil Kami won the Bronze Medal in Teakwodo.
- Inter – Collegiate Level
At Malhar 2008, Ms. Usha Narayan from S.Y.B.A. and Mr. Sonavane from S.Y.I.T. won the III and I Prize for solo classical dance and duet singing on 15th August.
At an Inter – Collegiate Quiz Competition organized by Jhunjhunwala College, Mr. Pradnya Rai and Mr. Sushant Musale from T.Y.I.T. and Mr. Sindhu Kashyap Borpuzari from F.Y.B.M.M. won the I Prize on 19th August 2008. At the Ratnam College festival this year Ms. Anandi Joisar from S.Y.B.Sc. won the I Prize in the inter collegiate event “Chem Housie”.
Mr. Jatin Meghani from F.Y. (B & I) won the I Prize in an inter-collegiate table – tennis tournament that was organized by M.D. College, Parel on 14th December 2008.
- Mega-events of the year : (Workshops / Seminars / Projects / Exhibitions / Functions / Intra and Inter – collegiate festivals) :
- The department of Computer Science of our College hosted a one – day workshop for F.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science) Revised Syllabus on 12th July 2008 that was attended by 75 lecturers from various colleges.
- The department of BMM organized its annual cultural festival RAAGA 2008 on 12th August on the theme “Jash – e – Hindustan”. The Programme was a tribute to our Indianism and manifestation of our rich culture and diversity.
- The department of Microbiology organized an Inter – collegiate festival titled “Bioefffervescene” on 22nd August 2008 in which 17 colleges from Mumbai participated.
- A two day Mathematics conference, “Mathemight” was held on 5th and 6th September 2008 that was attended by many prominent colleges of Mumbai.
- The annual I.T. festival “Sagacity” was organized from 18th to 20th September with an informative seminar on “Career in Commerce”.
- The department of Maths conducted the M3 contest in Maths for the 19th consecutive year on 22nd November 2008. Our junior college students also participated in the contest.
- The department of I.T. and C.S. organized a seminar on “Internet Security” that was attended by many other college students also.
- The department of commerce organized a seminar on “Value based Leadership” that was organized by T.Y.B.Com. students.
- The department of Microbiology organized “Sciclone” an intercollegiate paper presentation seminar for post graduate students of biological sciences.
- The department of Economics organized its first ever festival “Econfest” on “Inflation” on 30th August 2008.
- At the initiative of the Forum of Free Enterprise the department of Economics organized the 44th A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution of 26th November 2008 on the issue of “Climate Change and Global Warming”.
- In association with “Bal Anand”, an NGO working for Children Welfare, the department of BMM organized a “Social Awareness Week” from 24th to 30th November 2008.
- The department of B.M.M. organized its annual festival “Impressions – 2008” from 5th to 7th December 2008 on the theme of “ Media Uncensored” – an initiative to unravel and analyze the realities of today’s media.
- On 11th and 12th December 2008 the department of B.M.S. organized “Confluence – 2008” on the theme of “Learning from experience”. During this conference executives from different fields made presentations and also judged various events of the conference. The participating companies were R.C.F., Perumal Health Care and Awara Academy.
- Our College students participated in a human chain for the nation from Swastik Park to Chembur Naka that was organized by “Citizens for Peace”, a Mumbai based NGO on 12th December 2008. Our students also participated in a “Students Rally” on 20th December 2008 to express solidarity against the recent terror attacks in Mumbai.
- The department of Microbiology and Biotechnology organize a one – day workshop on 19th December 2008 on “Solid Waste and Vermicomposting for 170 P.G. Students from various colleges of Mumbai.
- The College annual festival “Talentia” was organized on 20th and 23rd December followed by the College Annual Day on 24th December 2008.
These days saw various literary and cultural events showcasing our rich heritage.
- The department of Banking and Insurance organized “Euphonity – 2009” on 19th and 20th January 2009. The department tide up with an NGO “Cry” for organizing this programme. A no. of guest lecture were held during this festival along with many inter – collegiate competitions.
- The NGO “Indian Youth Climate Network” (IYCN) who is supported by Ministry of Renewable Energy visited Mumbai on 17th January 2009. Dr. A.D. Sawant Pro – Vice Chancellor planned the entire programme in Mumbai. Our college was from one of the selected colleges in Mumbai. They gave a power point presentation on climate problems and solutions. They came and demonstrated the vehicles run by renewable sources of energy.
- Campus Placements and Career guidance :
The Career Guidance Cell (CGC) organized a number of Orientation Programmes and Seminars throughout the year. Some Prominent programmes conducted by CGC and various departments were “Higher Studies and opportunities Abroad” on 5th July 2008, “Career Opportunities on the Animation Industry” on 12th July 2008, “Company Secretaryship” on 19th July, “Tools and Preparation techniques for Civil Services and other competitive exams” on 26th July 2008, “Career in Shipping” on 23rd August 2008, “Science Journalism” on 2nd September 2008, “Skills for improving concentration power and memory” on 13th September 2008, “Personality Development Programme” on 20th September 2008. 19 students got placed in WIPRO Technologies and 13 students got placed in CONVERGUS in the month of January. Further placements were done in the month of February and March.
- NSS Activities:
The N.S.S. wing of the college organized a Blood donation camp and collected 192 bottles of blood on 17th July 2008.
It also organized a Thallasemia detection camp in which 600 students tested for the same.
A Rural Camp was organized from 2nd November to 12th November at our adopted village Sutrakar, involving 81 volunteers.
An Aids Awareness Programme was conducted in the campus during the months of Nov. – Dec. – 2008. Volunteers also participated in a campaign against child labour in Mankhurd slum area. The unit also collected Rs. 1,500/- (for Hi-tech foundation, an NGO in the field of disabled) through the sale of National Flag prepared by Physically challenged children.
