Just-Do-IT
"Ensuring Student Social Responsibility"

"Just Do IT" is a new social event that has been organized by IT department for its First year students. It's an extension activity to ensure SSR (Student Social Responsibility) under which students visit a NGO every year as a toddlers' step and contribute their valuable time with them.

Activities of just-Do-IT are given below:

2015-16

  • Department Students visited drought affected slums near Nanded and Marathwada area and interacted with the people. They had rehabilitated from latur. The students of bscit department do this activity every year to make the world a better place to live in. They spent 16 hours there.  General awareness for rain water harvesting techniques were taught; Many different traditional methods of farming were presented to them.

Description:
FY and SY stdents of the department had arranged games for the children of the slums to have their joyful moments. They played games like spoon and marble, hit the bottles and musical chairs. They gave them prizes, chocolates and balloons to the winners. Apart from the fun part the students made sure to make the people aware about how to save water. They also helped them to provide solutions about how to use water efficiently during water shortages. General awareness for rain water harvesting techniques were taught. Many different traditional methods of farming were presented in order to knowledge them to live a better life. Everyone had a great time and had an emotional moment in their lives.

  • Campaign of That's IT,department magazine, on 04/07/15 at Rochiram Thadani School, Chembur for 5 hrs. 25 students of TYIT and the faculties interacted with the students there
  • IT Association Donated Rs. 6160/- to a student towards her fee remittance
  • Sale-proceedings of That's IT -9th Edition Rs. 5000/- was given to a student of SYIT, towards her fee remittance
  • Department students Visited NASEOH’S National centre for Handicapped and spend 6 hours.

Description:
The Bsc IT department of  VES COLLEGE OF ARTS SCIENCE AND COMMERCE decided to visit the NGO NASEOH for their “JUST DO IT”  activity. Every year they go to different places for this activity and this year they decided to chose NASEOH for their visit. It is an NGO which helps handicapped children to live their lives in a d different way.

Students of  FY and SY went for their visit on 13th of May at 10 in the morning. They visited various departments of handicapped children which were categorized according to their disabilities. The students first visited the department where the children were taught to make handicraft paper bags. The next department was the bakery department where the children were skilled to make chocolate’s, cakes, pastries. The children there had mastered the art of baking. The next department was the hardware department where the children had learnt wielding so that they could design different hardware materials like wheelchairs. Then the students headed to the embroidery department where tailor work was done by the children. The children had made handcraft files made of cloth, purses, and other daily life usable materials. After visiting the embroidery department the students were them enlightened with some of the voting knowledge by the garden maintainers of the place. Lastly the students were taken to the department of art where the children had  beautifully sculpture fine art of idols of different gods.

The students were left in awe with their efforts applied even though having such difficult problems in their life. They spoke to the children and learnt about how they live their lives in a normal way. The best part of visiting the place was every student who visited got an internal inspiration and felt thankful for themselves. They learnt from the children that disability is just a challenge to overcome.

2014-15

  • The Faculties and Students of the department visited " Rochiram Thadani School, Chembur  and they donated Rs. 6000/- (Sale-proceedings of That's IT) to them
  • On account of Just-do-IT, the extension activity of the Department, the students have visitedMatoshri and Prem Daan NGOs, Home of Old-age and mentally-retarded people. They have interacted with them by conducting games and competitions for them. They spent 12 hours in these NGOs.

Description:
Students visited an old age home named "MATOSHRI" and "PREMDAAN"  which is an home for sick and dying destitute. They are situated at khadavli and Airoli, Navi Mumbai respectively.
About Matoshri
Matoshri is a foundation which has been giving shelter to more than 100 old-aged people since 30 years. This foundation is doing really a great job. It consists of a building and a beautiful garden. The building was Clean and was having two separate wings for men and women. It has an auditorium hall to conduct various programs for the people in it. The hall consists of a LCD and a Music system. The kitchen was very hygienic.
The elderly people there were very enthusiastic and none of them were sitting idle. They all were making interesting toys and mobile pouches in free time.
The atmosphere of the ashram reflects high positive energy.
Students' Interaction:

  • They had an initial introduction and welcomed all the old-aged people with roses
  • They played Antakshari with them and explored Sonu Nigam and Shreya Goshal of Matoshri
  • Smiley balls were distributed to all the active participants
  • Competition for Miss. Dadiji and Mr. Dadaji was conducted and the winners were given away with the prizes
  • They gave a wind chain as memento, token of their love, to all elderly people over there

Students' Feedback:
They all enjoyed a lot and had a great experience. They experienced the love & affection. Although the elderly people were left by their family, none of them showed hatred towards life. They not only bless our students but also their wards.  "Love everyone with their negative points too" is the mantra that we learned from their lives.
We hope that this visit should have surely taught them how to live a life.

About Prem Daan
Prem Daan is a foundation which has been giving shelter to more than 200 people out of which there are 42 children while the remaining are elders since 22 years. The mission of this foundation is to care for the crippled, homeless, hungry, the blind, the lepers, the women who  feel unwanted, unloved, uncared for throughout the society. The foundation is really working hard to take care of this people. It consists of buildings and a beautiful garden. It has three - four buildings at proper manner so that it is freely accessible. It has a lushy garden with varieties of flowers as well as plants so it provides a healing environment for the patients. It also has a Mess for the Lunch/Dinner of the patients. It also has a medicine room which has all basic first aid materials with it.

The sisters who take care of this people well trained in order to handle patients with such problems and they are basically from different states hence they do understand different languages. There were other workers for cleaning the floors, washing clothes, utensils, etc. It also has an ambulance in case of emergencies and group three doctors visit the ashram in order to keep a track of the patient's recovery and provide them with proper medicines.

The patients routine starts at 5:30 in the morning and then after an voluntary prayer they are given breakfast at 7:30.After which they are allowed to carry out with the activities in which they are interested such as sewing clothes, assisting  in cooking, or cleaning the rooms in which the stay they are not forced to do so. Then at 11:30 they are given lunch after which they take rest. Then again at 6:30 they are given dinner after which they go to sleep. They are provided with newspapers, music system so that get engaged in some activities and forget about the past.

Students' Interaction:

  • They had an initial introduction and welcomed all the  people with chocolates and greeting them.
  • They handed out drawing sheets and other painting materials to them and asked them to draw something which they liked.
  • They conducted dance acts and also included them in their dance performances.
  • They distributed Smiley balls to all them as a momentum and token of love.

Students' Feedback:
They all enjoyed a lot and had a great experience. They experienced the love & affection. Although the  people  who were left by their family, and were not taken care, did not show hatred towards the life. Instead they were happy looking at us and enjoyed with us. The people not only blessed the students but also their families and blessed them for their upcoming future. "Love everyone with their negative points too" is the mantra that we learned from their lives.
We hope that this visit should have surely taught them how to live a life.

2013-14:
This year department students visited an old age home named "MATOSHRI"  which is an old-age home for sick and dying destitute.
